Welcome to InterDweeb. Wonderful domain name, isn’t it? I was surprised it was not yet taken. It may be a little too cute, but I think it is relevant.
I plan on using this space to force myself to think a little bit harder and a little bit bigger than I have been about the Internet. I fell in love with all things web about two years ago, when I started my MBA at Stanford. I entered the program thinking I was going to build a career in the nonprofit sector and, of course, save the world.
And then I kept meeting so many amazing people that were focused on the Internet. Gurus, aspring entrepreneurs, and sometimes just enthusiastic consumers. The enthusiasm rubbed off. Where else but Silicon Valley can you be a nerdy rebel, build a fun website, and bring people together from all around the world to huddle around the most obscure of niche passions?
I like the fun spirit. I am drawn to the punk rock DIY ethos of many of the entrepreneurs I meet (I can’t think of anything more punk rock than bootstrapping a startup and taking on The Man). And I like the idea of changing the world for the better through ones and zeros.
I am currently an enthusiastic consumer. I’m also dabbling in the whole entrepreneurship thing with a little startup my drinking buddies and I are building. And one of these days I aspire to guruship.
In the meantime, here’s to pondering:
- Where is the Internet headed?
- And is it worth it?

I believe that the internet is worth everything and nothing at the same time.
like a fat girlfriend, the internet tends to suck the life from you. Considering that i have spent many of hours with both monsters i think im right. the internet is without saying a massive money making machine. people involved get rich and prosper.
The internet can also be, and is often used as an information gateway. opening your eyes to sights that just 15 years ago the average houshold would have never been able to experience.
But the internet can remove a persons ability to socialize and interact in the “real” world. take youtube for example. Youtube prospers over the incredible number of hours a day that people spend watching and downloading movies and usually stolen content. I have a friend who emails constantly to his “friends” in japan and england. but the man has no real social ability. he cant talk to people in a real conversation or hit on a girl in a bar. but hey he can type 55 words a minute so who needs the sins of the flesh right.
online college’s allow people to study from home but do they learn as much as people who go to class and interact with pears and there teatchers.
the fact that the internet is worth so much money and makes it so easy to steal copywritted items. it makes it easier for conmen to con.
i believe that eventually there will be massive new legislation for the use and access to the internet.
i could keep going but at the end of the day i’m just a fat dude zoned into the computer screen and talking to people that my never see this. was all this typing worth it. probably not because i dont really know what i’m talking about.
